A. The most recent owner on record may resume possession of their impounded animal except as may be provided in this title and if the animal has not already been adopted. The most recent owner on record may only redeem their animal after paying all related fees and may not adopt the animal.
B. Any stray animal impounded may be redeemed as provided in this section upon payment of a redemption fee as established in accordance with FNSBC 8.60.010 based on the number of previous impounds for the animal being at large within the past 36 months while under the care of the same owner, with a maximum fee of $300.00.
C. Any animal impounded from being surrendered may be redeemed as provided in this section upon payment of a first time redemption fee.
E. Any owner who agrees to have their redeemed dog or cat neutered or spayed within 30 days after redeeming that adult animal, or within 30 days after six-month birthday for a juvenile animal, will be refunded an amount equal to a first time redemption fee as established in accordance with subsection (B) of this section, upon receipt of a licensed veterinarian’s signed certification that the surgery has been performed.
F. No animal may be redeemed from impoundment that is in an unhealthy condition as determined by a licensed veterinarian, unless the condition is manageable or the animal is placed under the care of a licensed veterinarian. (Ord. 2019-09 § 2, 2019; Ord. 2017-27 § 7, 2017.)
